Health insurance can only be changed once a year. If you select a plan that you do not like, you would have to keep it until Open Enrollment.
Open Enrollment is usually on November 1st to December 15th for an effective date of January 1st. Althought there is a grace period, sometimes by December 31st, your plan may begin on January 1st. Grace periods and deadlines changes sometimes. It is best to enroll by the December 15th if you want coverage to start on January 1st.
If you enrolled on the 16th, your plan will begin the following month. You would need to wait for a month and a half for your coverage to begin. For example, If you enrolled on January 16th, you coverage will begin on March 1st.
